Assam and Mizoram CM meets in the presence of Union Home minister, Amit Shah post border clashes

First time ever since the border clashes since July this year chief ministers of Assam and Mizoram met in New Delhi in presence of Union Home minister, Amit Shah.

Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Heartening to share that I along with HCM Mizoram Sri @ZoramthangaCM met Hon HM Sri @AmitShah this evening in New Delhi. We reaffirmed our resolve to maintain peace and tranquility at our borders.”

Sarma added, “It has been decided that both the states will constitute committees for resolving the border disputes through discussions. Towards this end, Chief Ministers' level talks will also take place from time to time. We're grateful to Union HM for his kind guidance and support”.


There were clashes along Assam-Mizoram border which resulted in the death of seven people and injuries to several others. The Union Home ministry had to intervene.

Later Assam and Mizoram both the State Governments agree to maintain peace in the inter-State border areas, the neighbours agreed not send their respective Forest and Police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement or for fresh deployment to any of the areas where confrontation and conflict has taken place between the Police forces of the two States during recent times.

Assam shares a 164.6-kilometre long inter-state border with Mizoram. This border is shared by three districts of South Assam — Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj — and three districts of Mizoram — Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl.
