Asha becomes Aasha
In reply to PM Narendra Modi's urge to rename Namibian and South African cheetahs, a competition was held. The government has now shared the name of the cheetah and their winners. With that, Namibian cheetah Asha has now become Aasha.

Oban and Pavan
Oban is now Pavan, thanks to winners Aashvisingh, Sharweshwar Haritash, Kaarthi Shastry B S, Aranya Haldar, and Amankumar. A total of 11,565 entries were received suggesting new names for reintroduced cheetahs.

Savanna to Nabha
The female cheetah Savannah was renamed as Nabha, courtesy Amit Rajendra Nalawade, Narendra Choudhary, and Sunil Patil. PM Modi had made the move with an intention to popularize and to sensitize the general public about Project Cheetah.

Siyaya, a female cheetah, has now been named as Jwala meaning flame. The name has been given by Dwarkaram, Ishant Jindal, Bhaiya Ji. The entries were scrutinized by a selection committee and based on the significance and relevance of the suggested names for their conservation and cultural value the following new names have been selected for cheetahs for Namibian and South African cheetah.

The name of Elton, a male cheetah, has been changed to Gaurav. Satish Reddy, Jayant Kothavade, Bhumika Bisht, and Suchismita Sengupta were named winners by the government to suggest the names.

Freddy, a male cheetah, will now be called Shaurya. The names have been selected in parity with the Indian culture. This name was given by winners Anuj Kumar Yogi and Bhumika Bisht.

Female cheetah Tiblisi will not be called by that name anymore. Instead, she is Dhatri now, thanks to winners Rushav Satapathy and Varshini Bhat. The new names were shared by Union minister Bhupendra Yadav.
