"Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better," he wrote in a post on X.
Ratan Tata, the former Tata Group chairman who put a staid and sprawling Indian conglomerate on the global stage with a string of high-profile acquisitions died in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital in the late hours of Wednesday. Earlier this week, he had been admitted there for routine checkups and was moved into intensive care earlier today.
In a statement published on his social media profiles, the 86-year-old on Monday had said he remained in good spirits and that there was no cause for concern saying that he underwent a routine check-up due to his age and related medical conditions.
Several other industry and political leaders such as Harsh Goenka, Anand Mahindra, Gautam Adani, Uday Kotak, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also took to X to express the loss of one of India's most beloved leader and businessmen. The Indian National Congress also conveyed condolences through their official page on X.
