The home ministry said that it was monitoring the situation and additional forces would be deployed in troubled areas till normalcy returned. The report gave details on the police response time, FIR registered, suspects arrested and weapons seized.
When asked how policemen were present to monitor VHP's Sobha Yatra on Hanuman Jayanti, if no permission was given for the event, Pathak said: "Police focus on maintaining law and order. If any situation erupts during a congregation, we have to see that the situation doesn't worsen and that was the reason adequate policemen were there. Delhi Police has been able to contain the situation in minimum possible time with no injuries to civilians."
More than 500 police personnel and six companies of additional force have been stationed in the area. Drones have been deployed in sensitive areas for surveillance, police said.
