Arvind Kejriwal Bail: Delhi HC issues notice to CBI on Kejriwal's plea seeking bail in excise policy case

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the CBI on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea seeking bail in a CBI case connected to the Excise Policy matter.

The case will be next heard on July 17.

The Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor had moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail after his arrest by the CBI on June 26, 2024, in connection with the excise policy case. In his petition, Kejriwal challenged the legality of his arrest by the investigative agency.


While issuing a notice to the CBI regarding Kejriwal's plea, the Delhi High Court's Justice Neena Bansal Krishna set a timeline for responses, with a detailed hearing scheduled for July 17.

Kejriwal contended that his arrest lacked proper justification, particularly given the ongoing investigation over the past two years. He argued that the arrest was based on previously available evidence, which he claimed is illegal without new developments.

Kejriwal has been in judicial custody since June 29, following a Rouse Avenue Court order.

On their part, the CBI alleged non-cooperation from Kejriwal during interrogation and questions his involvement in enhancing profit margins for liquor wholesalers under the new excise policy without adequate justification. Additionally, the CBI raised concerns about meetings and financial transactions during the second wave of COVID-19 and their potential impact on the ongoing investigation.
