Arunachal Pradesh cloudburst triggers massive landslide in Anini; seven Army personnel missing after flash flood, two rescued

Guwahati: A cloudburst occurred in the Pashu Pani area of Anini in Arunachal Pradesh resulting in a massive landslide which submerged the affected area. Seven army Army personnel went missing after a flash flood, two were rescued.

In another incident four people died in a major landslide on a road construction site in Upper Subansiri district.

Defence sources said, “The incident took place on Friday. Immediate rescue operations were carried out and two soldiers were rescued. Multiple rescue teams were rushed from neighbouring posts which braved inclement weather and inundation to reach the site and join the rescue operations. Coordinated search and rescue operations are presently underway to locate and evacuate affected personnel from the area.”


Sources added, “Army aviation assets have augmented the rescue effort and facilitated immediate medical evacuation. All available resources are being employed in a coordinated rescue and relief operation. Operations are continuing priority, and further details will be released after verification of the situation.”

The landslide occurred at the Keojaring-Byaching road cutting site in Upper Subansiri district.

A senior police official said that four people — Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali — were reported dead in the incident.

Personnel from Nacho Police Station have been deployed for the search and recovery operation. Fire and Emergency Services personnel are also being mobilised from Daporijo, while a team of the State Disaster Response Force will assist in the operation.

Two search and rescue teams from the 5th Grenadier have already been deployed. An SDRF team from Pasighat is also proceeding to Anini to assist in the rescue operation.
