New Delhi: The Union home ministry has notified amendments to Citizenship Amendment Act rules. A gazette notification on Monday stated that the Citizenship Amendment Rules, 2026, issued under Section 18 of the Citizenship Act, 1955, have inserted a new paragraph into Schedule IC of the 2009 rules.

Officials said some cases have emerged in which CAA applicants were found to be in possession of foreign passports. Indian law does not allow dual citizenship or permit an Indian citizen to hold a passport of any other country.

Earlier, disclosure of passports and an undertaking for their surrender were not explicitly included in the rules. As per officials, a clause is now likely to be added, requiring applicants to specify the status of their passport.
