Another gay couple seeks legal recognition of marriage

Another gay couple Wednesday petitioned the top court seeking legal recognition of their marriage, which was registered in the US.

The petitioners have sought a declaration to the effect that persons belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community have the same right to marriage as their heterosexual counterparts.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud issued notices on the petition seeking Centre's response. The bench also agreed to consider a request for live streaming of the proceedings of the pleas seeking recognition of same-sex marriage under the Special Marriage Act.
