New Delhi: Diplomat Anjani Kumar has been appointed as India's next ambassador to Ukraine, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday.

He is expected to take up the assignment soon.

"Anjani Kumar (IFS: 2003), presently Joint Secretary at Headquarters, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Ukraine," the MEA said in a statement.

Ukraine is currently involved in a conflict with Russia that has stretched for over four years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine in August 2024, at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It was the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine ever since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992, the MEA had said earlier.
