National Award-winning Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta has died after suffering serious injuries in a fall from the roof of his house in Hindustan Park on Wednesday. He was taken to a hospital near Dhakuria in critical condition, where he later passed away. The director had been suffering from respiratory problems for a long time.

Anik Dutta became widely known in 2012 with his film Bhooter Bhabishyat. The film drew attention for its political and social satire presented through a horror narrative. Many critics and viewers consider it a landmark film in Bengali cinema. He later continued a similar style of storytelling in Ashchorjyo Prodeep.

He later directed Aparajito, starring Jeetu Kamal. The film received a strong response from audiences and performed successfully at the box office. At the time of his death, Anik was working on Aparajito 2.


During the release of his Puja film Joto Kando Kolkatay, the filmmaker had expressed concern that it might become his last film.

According to reports, Anik Dutta had been living alone at his home for the past few months. His daughter lives in Mumbai.
