Andhra to set up disaster recovery centre in Tirupati to secure e-governance data
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a Disaster Recovery Centre in Tirupati to support the Andhra Pradesh State Data Centre, which functions as the core IT infrastructure for hosting e-governance initiatives and services provided by state government departments, societies and organisations.

The Disaster Recovery (DR) Centre will be set up under the Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) model with capital expenditure (CAPEX) funding from the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI).

"The government, after careful examination of the proposal, hereby approves the establishment of Disaster Recovery (DR) Centre for AP (Andhra Pradesh) State Data Centre at IIDT Campus, Tirupati," said N Yuvaraj, secretary, IT, Electronics and Communications Department (ITE&C) in a government order on Tuesday.

The Andhra Pradesh State Data Centre (APSDC) serves as the centralised repository for state-level data and hosts a multitude of applications, including web portals, citizen service delivery platforms, and the internal government system APSDC's primary operational site is in the greenfield capital city of Amaravati, operating as Data Center rack space on a lease basis at Pi Data Centers (PIDC) in Mangalagiri, said the GO.

As it lacks a geographically distant (far-site) DR facility, several departments have requested DR support for their applications hosted in APSDC, especially following the ITE&C Department's directive mandating the migration of applications from private hosting environments to APSDC as part of the State Data Lake initiative.

During a review meeting held by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with ITE&C and other departments, it was directed to establish the DR site at Tirupati for APSDC (Amaravati).

Consequently, the government prepared a Rs 195 crore plan to set up the DR Centre, encompassing the construction of the civil structure, establishment of non-IT and IT infrastructure, maintenance of five years under BOOT model and other requirements.
