Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday pledged to complete the Polavaram irrigation project by 2027 and the first phase of Amaravati by 2028, setting timelines for the state's flagship infrastructure projects.

“By 2027, we give our word that we will complete the Polavaram project and dedicate it to the nation. By 2028, we assure you all that the first phase of Amaravati will be completed and inaugurated by the prime minister,” Naidu said while addressing a gathering after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Visakhapatnam.

Naidu also projected North Andhra as an emerging investment destination, citing improved connectivity and infrastructure.

He said the region had attracted investments from companies including Google and ArcelorMittal, and that 189 projects involving investments of Rs 6,130 crore had been initiated over the past two years. According to the chief minister, these projects are expected to generate about 557,000 jobs on completion.

The state government will invest Rs 2,884 crore over the next three years to complete key irrigation projects in North Andhra, he said. Work to connect Anakapalli with Godavari waters is under way, while the government also plans to pursue the interlinking of the Godavari and Vamsadhara rivers.

Naidu said the government's objective was to create employment opportunities within the region so that people would no longer have to migrate elsewhere for work.
