Among 41 trapped workers rescued from Uttarakhand tunnel, two from Assam

There was profound joy and sweets distributed after two workers from Assam were rescued in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand.

The two from Kokrajhar district in Assam were among the 41 workers who were rescued. The rescued trapped Assam workers are Sanjay Basumatary and Ram Prasad Narzary.

The family members of both Basumatary and Narzary passed anxious moments for the past 16 days at their Kokrajhar homes.


On Tuesday the locals distributed sweets among the villagers as trapped two workers along with 39 other personnel were being rescued from the tunnel.

Both Sanjay Basumatary and Ram Prasad Narzary immediately after their rescue, talked to their family members over phone from the Silkyara tunnel site.

After the rescue of the workers, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his series of posts on the X, thanked the Central government and other agencies which were involved in the challenging mega rescue operations.

“This also brings me personal relief as with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, two of our own brothers from Kokrajhar – Ram Prasad Narzary and Sanjay Basumatary have also come out safely. We were constantly in touch with their families through this ordeal,” Sarma said in one of the posts.
