Union home minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone of the goddess Sita temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi, Bihar, on August 8. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will be present on the occasion as the chief guest.

Earlier this month, the Bihar cabinet approved a fund of ₹883 crore for building a goddess Sita temple. The plan includes developing Punaura Dham on the lines of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra in Ayodhya. Out of the sanctioned amount, ₹137 crore will be spent on the renovation of the existing temple and another ₹728 crore on infrastructure such as a parikrama path and parking roads. Funds will also be kept for the maintenance of the temple for the coming 10 years.

Shah will be on a two-day visit to Bihar from August 7.
