Singh rushed to New Delhi last evening to meet the union home minister.
The union home minister reviewed the prevailing security scenario in Manipur with the Chief Minister. He also directed the Chief Minister to accelerate the present peace process and consolidate the growing bonhomie among different communities.
Shah also in principle agreed to the raising of one Mahila India Reserve Battalion (IRB) for Manipur and asked the Chief Minister to send the proposal.
Recently there has been tension in Ukhrul districts. Even sporadic incidents of violence are taking place in Churachandpur.
A senior BJP leader who does not want to be named council of minister’s expansion is another issue which is likely to come up while the chief minister is in New Delhi. In February Singh took oath.
Seven ministerial berths are vacant however the expansion is yet to receive a nod from the BJP's central leadership. On March 4 the chief minister allocated portfolios among the two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers, retaining most key departments under his charge.
The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department and the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department were allocated to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
The Public Health Engineering Department and the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Departments were assigned to another deputy Chief minister, Losii Dikho.
The Home Department and the Youth Affairs and Sports Departments was allotted to Konthoujam Govindas Singh, while the Arts and Culture Department and the Tourism Department were given to Khuraijam Loken Singh.
Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, Nemcha Kipgen and Konthoujam Govindas Singh belong to the BJP, while Losii Dikho and Khuraijam Loken Singh are from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the National People’s Party (NPP), respectively.
Chief Minister Singh, along with the two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers, was sworn in on February 4 after President’s Rule was revoked in the state.
The lone woman Minister and BJP MLA Nemcha Kipgen, who belongs to the Kuki community, took oath virtually as Deputy Chief Minister from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi due to security reasons.
