Starting Tuesday, the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been activated in Delhi due to persistent poor air quality for three days.

This initial stage of the GRAP is designed to tackle winter pollution.

The regulations under stage 1 GRAP include rigorous inspections of polluting vehicles and improved traffic management. Additionally, there will be stringent emission controls applied to industries, power plants, and brick kilns.

Notably, the plan prohibits the open burning of waste, restricts the use of diesel generators, and bans coal or firewood use in restaurants.

Delhi's air quality remains in the 'poor' category, registering an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 207 on Tuesday, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This drop in air quality was observed following the Dussehra celebrations.

The weather department noted that the minimum temperature on Tuesday was 17.4 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below the seasonal average. At 8:30 AM, humidity levels were recorded at 64 percent. Cloudy skies are anticipated throughout the day, with maximum temperatures expected to reach around 35 degrees Celsius.
