In the interview with Kapil Sibal, Farooq Abdullah cited from Ramayana to emphasize India's diversity.
Amid buzz for Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya, Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference President and former Chief Minister, in an interview with Kapil Sibal, cited from Ramayana to stress India's diversity and India's culture. He said that Lord Ram never differentiated between people.

Citing from Ramayana, Farooq Abdullah said that when queen Kaikeyi reminded King Dasharatha about the boon he had yet to fulfill she asked that the throne be given to her son Bharata, and that her stepson—crown prince Rama (the hero of the Ramayana)—should be exiled from the kingdom. Abdullah said that Ram did not hesitate for a moment and agreed to go on exile as his father had given word.

Citing about the greatness of Lord Rama, he cited another incident from Ramayana when Mata Sita gave her bangle as a payment to a boatman for their trip, but he didn’t accept it and instead asked Lord Rama to give salvation. Rama immediately promised to fulfill his wishes.

Abdullah spoke about how Ram was revered by all sections of Indian society and his message is of inclusion and not division.
He urged Indians to understand their religion first. The day you understand your religion you will not which hate others, he said.

"India’s strength is its diversity. People come to see Chashme Shahi and Shalimar bagh to see different kinds of flowers blooming. India is vast and known for its diversity. Attempts to subjugate it or make everything the same will hurt India," he said.
