The Allahabad high court on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the UP government's steps to improve medical infrastructure in the five predominantly rural districts that it had asked for details of. In previous hearings, the HC had asked the government to furnish details of medical infrastructure in five predominantly rural districtsBahraich, Shravasti, Barabanki, Jaunpur and Bijnor and in the last hearing had found the infrastructure inadequate in the cities.

However, on Thursday, it said it "appreciates" that some work has been done with regard to improvement on infrastructure and asked the government to replicate the efforts in other districts too. It also said it found the government's capping of diagnostics fee related to RT-PCR tests, antigen tests and CT tests "satisfactory". The HC's Thursday order is a departure from a string of earlier orders where it had come down heavily on the UP government for its Covid-19 crisis management.
