Among these trapped workers, eight hail from Uttar Pradesh, furthering the concern for their safety. Motivating them, Mishra, another official, shared, “Don’t worry and stay strong — the entire country is praying for all of you. The rescue operations will be soon successful, and we will go back home together.”
However, the workers' distress was evident as Akhilesh Kumar expressed, “We are getting food, but all of us are in bad condition. What is the progress of the rescue work? Please take us out quickly. It is getting harder and harder with each passing day.”
Rescuers have also released the first visuals of the trapped workers from the Uttarkashi tunnel. This comes as the rescue team tries to establish contact with them. The endoscopic flexi camera reached the trapped workers.
In a bid to alleviate the families' worries, audio recordings of these interactions were shared. Mishra conveyed that this was to reduce their pain and provide assurance regarding their loved ones' well-being.
As ongoing rescue operations persist, efforts have been made to provide sustenance to the trapped laborers. An alternative lifeline pipe and provisions like Khichdi in cylindrical bottles were arranged for the workers. Hemant, the cook behind this initiative, highlighted, “This is the first time a hot meal is being sent. We are only preparing the food which we have been recommended.”
The incident occurred on November 12, when a tunnel collapsed during construction, leaving 41 laborers trapped due to a muck fall in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side. Efforts continue relentlessly to ensure the safe rescue of those stranded deep within the tunnel's confines.
