=New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday enquired about the action taken by Punjab and Haryana to control the menace of stubble burning in wake of deteriorating air quality in Delhi.

A division bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran sought action taken report after it was informed that due to the worsening air quality in Delhi, stage III of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented. "Let Punjab and Haryana governments respond on steps taken to control stubble burning," the bench said as it ordered listing of the case on November 17.

At the last hearing, the court had called for a status report from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on the deteriorating air quality in Delhi. The court had passed the direction after it was apprised that most of the air quality monitoring stations in Delhi remained shut during Diwali. Senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is amicus curiae in the matter, had requested for a report from the CAQM at the last hearing.
