Air India plane crash: Body of Manipuri AI crew Lamnunthem Singson lands in Nagaland

The body of Lamnunthem Singson, one of the two flight attendants from Manipur who was killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, reached Nagaland, from where the body is being taken by road to their house in Manipur's Kangpokpi.

Kangpokpi is roughly 165 kms away from Dimapur. On Thursday, her body arrived at the Dimapur airport after the authorities confirmed her DNA sample match. Lamnunthem and her family used to live in Imphal's Old Lambulane, but had to leave their home after ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur in May 2023. The family has been living in Kangpokpi district as internally displaced persons.

The Manipur government had on June 16 said it was fully prepared to receive the bodies of the two flight attendants at the Imphal airport. The Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) while appreciating the positive gesture of valley-based Meitei Civil Society Organisation Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity with an open arms to allow the mortal remains of Lamnunthem to be flown up to Imphal Tulihal Airport and to convoy upto Gamgiphai, the border of Kuki Hills and Kanglei in Manipur, the TTC declined the offer as the victim's family preferred to take the road to Kangpokpi, so as to enable all friends and relatives along the highway to offer their last respects along the route.
