A Delhi-Mumbai Air India flight declared an emergency upon approaching its destination on Wednesday, prompted by a fire warning indication in one of the two CFM engines that power the Airbus A320neo. The pilots issued a Mayday distress call and notified Mumbai air traffic control. The aircraft landed safely and without any incident in Mumbai, where it is currently grounded for thorough checks. The warning occurred just before the aircraft's scheduled landing in Mumbai.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is currently investigating this recent engine incident.

"AI 814, operating from Delhi to Mumbai on December 19, 2023, experienced a fire warning indication on one of its engines. As a precautionary measure, an emergency was declared, and air traffic control was notified. The flight landed without any issues, and subsequent inspection revealed no signs of fire or smoke," an Air India spokesperson told Times of India.

Following standard protocol, fire extinguishers were deployed, and an emergency declaration was made. This incident is likely a false alarm, as post-landing inspections found no evidence of fire or smoke, an official told Times of India.
