As lone Air India plane crash survivor Vishwas Kumar was still recovering at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, he came to know from the visiting relatives about the death of his brother Ajay in the same crash. The inconsolable lone survivor had to be counselled by the psychiatric experts at the hospital.

As he was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and reached his hometown Diu, he had to immediately rush to attend the cremation of his brother. Breaking down at the funeral of Ajay, Vishwas kept on saying he had no reason to survive while his brother was dead. Vishwas's family had initially hidden the news of his brother's death from him as he was under shock from the crash and had multiple injuries. While other members of the Kumar family have reached Diu from London, locals informed ET that Ajay's wife has been admitted to a hospital after she had a major breakdown. Ajay and his wife had lost their two daughters in infancy in London earlier.

Meanwhile, DNA profiles of 208 bodies have been matched till filing of this report out of whom 154 are Indians, 37 are British, 6 are Portuguese, 1 is Canadian and 8 are of non-passenger citizens. So far, the authorities have handed over 173 bodies to families of the victims which include 131 Indians, 30 British, 4 Portuguese, 1 Canadian and 6 non-passenger victims.

According to Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi, 14 more families are expected to collect the bodies of their loved ones soon while 12 families are waiting for the matching of DNA of their other relatives.

The Gujarat cabinet on Wednesday observed two minutes of silence in its meeting in respect of the crash victims and passed two condolence resolutions: one for the crash victims and the other for former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who also lost life to the accident.
