With utmost dedication, the UP Metro Rail Corporation is committed to making the Agra Metro functional ahead of schedule. Originally slated to start operations in August 2024, the UPMRC team aims to inaugurate the Metro by February 2024.
UPMRC's reputation for early project deliveries precedes them, and Agra's Metro venture will be no exception. Managing Director Sushil Kumar told ToI that the team will achieve this remarkable feat by providing Agra's residents with an efficient Metro system well before the stipulated timeline.
Having conducted low-speed trials at the Agra Metro Depot thus far, the focus now shifts to high-speed trials on the three-kilometer elevated viaduct, which includes three elevated stations. This stretch forms part of the six-kilometer priority corridor, connecting Taj East Gate Metro Station to Jama Masjid Metro Station.
The Agra Metro will consist of two corridors, spanning a combined length of 29.4 kilometers. The first corridor, stretching 13.7 kilometers from Taj East Gate to Sikandara, will feature six elevated and seven underground stations. The second corridor, extending 15.7 kilometers from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, will be entirely elevated with 14 stations. Notably, all Metro trains will be equipped with a regenerative braking system, ensuring up to 35% energy savings for a sustainable and eco-friendly transport solution.
