The counsel for the UP government gave this undertaking in response to an application seeking protection against the proposed demolitions which was mentioned before a bench headed by justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan.
Communal riots broke out in UP's Bahraich last week and state authorities issued notices to demolish the buildings of individuals booked in an FIR related to rioting by alleging that their constructions were illegal. Three of them moved SC on Sunday contesting the demolition notices.
Justice Gavai verbally remarked: "If they (state authorities) want to take risk of flouting our order, it's their choice."
The bench said that it would take up the application on Wednesday and asked the UP government counsel to defer action. In response, the UP government counsel said that no action will be taken till tomorrow.
