After 'Kohli' biriyani discount, a free 'curry chawal' offer if India wins World Cup

Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia, to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, a Chandīgarh dhaba owner has pledged to offer free 'curry chawal' if the Indian team clinches victory. An avid cricket follower since Kapil Dev's famous 1983 World Cup win, Narendra Singh, the dhaba owner, is a big Team India fan and is optimistic that Rohit Sharma-led India side will be able to win the World Cup.

Speaking to ANI, Narendra said: "I have watched all the World Cup matches since 1983 when Kapil Dev's India won the World Cup. To support Team India in the World Cup, I will serve free 'curry chawal' if the Indian team win the 2023 ODI World Cup."

India's unbeaten journey to the final included a comprehensive victory over New Zealand in the semis, securing their place in the ODI World Cup 2023 title clash. Meanwhile, Australia reached the final by overcoming South Africa in a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

It is to be noted that Virat Kohli's historic 50th century during the World Cup semi-final at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium sparked a unique frenzy for biryani in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district. A local eatery, in celebration of Kohli's achievement, offered a discount on biryani equivalent to the runs he scored. The discount reached 100% as Kohli achieved his century, making the biryani free and leading to a stampede-like situation at the eatery. The incident prompted the owner to temporarily close the restaurant to maintain order, and the police were dispatched to handle the large crowd.
