The Karnataka state government on Wednesday banned the movement of vehicles within Ramanagara district and from outside into the district for participating in the Congress party's padayatra, swiftly moving into a damage-control mode within hours after the High Court took the government to task.

The government directed the police and transport department to implement the ban on such vehicles to prevent people from participating in the padayatra. "The act of defiance is endangering the lives of a large number of people. The protest/Padayatra is likely to aggravate the already worsening COVID 19 situation in the State," the government said in its notification.
