The Bombay High Court on Friday became the second judicial premises in the country to receive a bomb threat e-mail, hours after a similar message was sent to the Delhi High Court.

Police confirmed to news agency PTI that the threat mail triggered an immediate security response, with bomb squads and sniffer teams deployed inside the complex. Hearings were suspended, the building was vacated, and a thorough search of the premises is currently underway.

Authorities are investigating the source of the e-mails and and it is, as of now, unclear whether the two threats are connected.

Mumbai Police informed that the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) has been dispatched to the premises and are currently following standard operating procedure to contain the situation. They further said that there is no reason to panic.

"Bombay High Court received a bomb threat today. So, the court has been vacated...Police are investigating it," a senior laywer told news agency ANI.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court registrar general received an e-mail warning of multiple blasts inside the court complex. The message, reportedly sent around 8:39 am, claimed that explosives had been planted in judges’ chambers.

Judges were alerted mid-proceedings, prompting an emergency evacuation.

“As a sample, today’s blast in the Delhi High Court will clear the doubts of previous bluffs and judges’ chambers will detonate shortly after the mid-day Islamic prayers.” It further claimed that three bombs had been placed in judges’ rooms and directed everyone to vacate the complex by 2 pm," the email reportedly said.

Police and fire officials rushed to the site, deploying bomb disposal units and dog squads. Litigants, lawyers, clerks and staff were all asked to leave the premises as sanitisation measures began.

“We were asked by the security officials to vacate the court... The court proceedings have been stopped,” a Delhi HC lawyer told ANI.

“During the court proceedings, the judges informed us that they had received a bomb threat via e-mail and hence we have evacuated. Now, the sanitisation process is underway and if everything remains fine, the court proceedings will resume at 2:30 pm. As of now, we are taking all precautionary measures," another lawyer from Delhi told PTI.
