Actor Suniel Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, following reports that several websites and social media pages have been using his photographs without consent to promote their businesses.

The actor filed an interim application urging the court to direct such platforms to remove his pictures and to restrain them from using his images in the future. The petition was heard briefly by Justice Arif Doctor on Friday, who reserved the order after hearing arguments from Shetty’s counsel, senior advocate Birendra Saraf.

Suniel Shetty alleges misuse of his photos online

According to the plea, multiple websites have used Shetty’s images and those of his grandchild for commercial purposes without authorisation. His counsel informed the court that one of the instances involved a real estate agency’s website and another related to an online gambling platform displaying his photos, even though he has no connection with either entity.

Suniel Shetty claims damage to reputation

In his plea, Shetty argued that using his photographs and likeness without permission violated his “personality rights” and could harm his reputation. The petition contends that any unauthorised use of his identity for profit amounts to misrepresentation and exploitation.

Similar case by Aishwarya Rai

The actor’s move comes soon after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a similar plea before the Delhi High Court, seeking to protect her personality and publicity rights against the unauthorised use of her name, images, and voice for commercial purposes.

The growing number of such petitions highlights a rising concern among celebrities about the misuse of their public persona in the digital space, particularly on social media and online promotional platforms.
