After a brief illness, Vikravandi DMK MLA Pugazhenthi passes away
N. Pugazhenthi, a 71-year-old DMK MLA from Vikravandi, passed away at GVMCH in Mundiyambakkam after hospitalization. His political journey began in 1973, holding multiple DMK roles, including district secretary in 2020.

As per the available information, Mr. Pugazhenthi was hospitalized at the GVMCH a few days ago due to a health condition that he had complained of. On Friday, April 5, he was released from custody and went to the public gathering at Vikravandi where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin spoke.
But on Friday night, his health deteriorated, and he was admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for treatment. There, on Saturday morning, at 10.35 a.m., he passed away.
Mr. Pugazhenthi, who was born in Athiyur Thiruvadi, close to Sankarapuram, began his political career in 1973 and held a number of posts in the Villupuram district unit of the DMK. He ran in the 2019 byelection for the Vikravandi assembly constituency but was defeated by Muthamizhselvan of the AIADMK.
He started out in politics with the DMK party in 1973 as a branch secretary and worked his way up to become a district representative in 1980. He was a devoted follower of Minister K Ponmudy and was appointed as the district secretary of Villupuram in 2020.
