Afghan FM to travel to Delhi next week following UN travel exemption

Amid efforts by New Delhi and Kabul to expand political and economic ties under Taliban 2.0 Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is set to visit India next week after he was granted travel exemption by the United Nations Security Council.

To travel internationally, Muttaqi required a waiver from the UN’s 1988 Sanctions Committee. He is expected to be in Delhi on Oct 9-10.

With Taliban 2.0 seeking to chart a foreign policy independent of Pakistan and expand development and economic ties with New Delhi, New Delhi has reciprocated since last year. Chabahar Port has been used to send aid.


Earlier Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Muttaqi in Dubai, and held talks that focused on India’s humanitarian aid to Afghanistan’s health sector and for refugee rehabilitation.

Later MEA official in charge of Pak-Afghanistan-Iran division travelled to Kabul to meet Muttaqi. The Afghan Minister also spoke with EAM S Jaishankar over phone. Kabul had condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.
