Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, on Tuesday said no matter how many security forces are deployed in Kashmir, the actual responsibility to ensure a peaceful Amarnath yatra lies with people of Pahalgam.

Mufti visited Pahalgam on Tuesday, nearly 50 days after the Baisaran terrorist attack that killed 25 tourists and a local. The PDP chief called for unity and collective action to ensure the success of the Amarnath yatra.

The annual Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3 this year will go on for 52 days till August 9.

She urged the CM and LG to take swift action to reopen popular tourist destinations such as Chandanwari, Aru Valley, Betab Valley, and other parks in Pahalgam.
