Guwahati: A coroner's court in Singapore has ruled that the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg was the result of accidental drowning. Earlier, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) had also stated that there was no foul play involved. The development sparked a political debate in Assam, which goes to polls on April 9.

State Coroner Adam Nakhoda said there was no reason to disagree with the findings of the PCG after reviewing the evidence presented before him.

A death certificate issued by the hospital listed drowning as the cause of Garg's death. Assistant Superintendent of Police David Lim testified that Garg had consumed alcohol and refused to wear a life vest before jumping into water from a yacht.
