Major accident on Hayuliang–Chaglagam road along Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, 17 feared dead

Guwahati: A major accident on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. At least 17 people are feared dead.

The incident took place when a truck carrying 21 labourers plunged into a deep gorge. The incident which happened on Monday only came to light when one injured came and alerted the authorities.

The accident took place on the Chaglagam border road, located around 45 km from the international boundary at an altitude of over 10,000 feet.


Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a social media post stated, “We are deeply saddened to hear about the deaths of 14 people from Assam in a horrible road accident in Arunachal Pradesh. We want to inform you that our Tinsukia district administration is providing all the necessary help and support by keeping in contact with the concerned authorities of Arunachal Pradesh.

He added, “The Aid and Rescue Teams continue their quick efforts to rescue the unidentified persons. All arrangements have been provided to those in need of medical assistance. Deepest condolences to the families of the victims in this difficult time. Deeply pained by the passing away of 14 of our people from Assam in a terrible accident in Arunachal Pradesh. Our district administration is in touch with relevant authorities in Arunachal Pradesh and all necessary assistance is being provided”.

He informed that relief and rescue teams are prioritising locating missing or unaccounted people at the earliest. “We are also ensuring that medical help is provided to those in need. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families in this tough time”.
