Accenture in India has introduced a programme to assist employees who choose to adopt a child, the IT and consulting services company said in a press statement.

The programme offers financial assistance for adoption-related expenses. Each Accenture employee can avail of this benefit towards two instances of adoption.

“The initiative strengthens our existing policies and programmes to support its people who are parents, or those who seek to embrace parenthood,” said Lakshmi C, managing director and lead - human resources at Accenture in India.

Accenture had equated adoption and surrogacy leave to maternity leave practices in India as early as in 2016. In 2021, the tech major introduced inclusive, gender-neutral parental leave options to support childbirth, surrogacy, and adoption.

Its corporate medical insurance programme in India offers coverage for maternity, fertility, and surrogacy treatment for its people and their spouse or LGBTIQ+ partner looking to embrace parenthood. It also offers access to a wide range of childcare centres and creches across locations.

Accenture’s ‘Parents at work’ employee resource group helps parents share their experiences, lean on each other, and find solutions to shared challenges. In addition, niche groups and communities support diverse parenting journeys such as single parents and parents who are caregivers to children with special needs, the company said.

Accenture partners with external experts to guide parents on topics like effective parenting styles, children’s mental well-being, eliminating the taboo around sex education, and caring for children with special needs.

It also has a caregiver programme that offers guidance and resources to parents and other caregivers.
