ACB files disproportionate assets case against brother of J&K's deputy CM
Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a disproportionate assets case against inspector Vijay Singh Choudhary, the brother of J&K deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary.

The deputy CM decried the action as one driven by revenge and an attempt to “intimidate and malign” his family.

The ACB alleged that the accused was in possession of assets amounting to crores of rupees which were found to be highly disproportionate to his known sources of income. Following this, a verification was conducted and searches were carried out at various places in Jammu division on Wednesday, the bureau said.

“More than 10 properties in the shape of houses, shops & plots of land in 100 of kanals valued in crores have been raised by him mostly in the name of family members, his relatives and others… a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was found made out against the accused Vijay Singh Choudhary, Inspector J&K Police under offences punishable U/S 13(1)(b) r/w section 13 (2) of PC Act 1988,” said a statement issued by the ACB.

Officials said incriminating documents were recovered and seized during the searches and further investigation was in progress.

The deputy CM said that the family will fight the case and that it has full faith in India’s judiciary and many good officers in Jammu and Kashmir who will ensure justice.

“He is an officer whose entire career, background and service record reflect a consistent fight against militancy and crime. Wherever he served, he earned a name for his courage and professionalism,” said Surinder Choudhary. “We are not afraid. We know who we are and what we stand for. Truth will ultimately prevail… and if Vijay Singh is wrong, then he should be punished.”

The deputy CM also alleged that his brother’s promotion had been stalled due to internal rivalry within the police department.
