'Absconder' in 1989 Rubaiyya kidnapping case arrested by CBI
Srinagar: CBI has apprehended an individual in Srinagar in connection with the 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiyya Sayeed, the daughter of the then Union home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. The arrested person has been identified as Shafat Ahmad Shungloo. CBI officials alleged that "Shungloo conspired with Yasin Malik of now banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and others in committing a crime under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code and TADA Act during the year 1989". Malik is already lodged in Tihar Jail. Shungloo was taken into custody by CBI from Nishat police station. "The absconder is carrying a reward of ₹10 lakh... He will be produced before TADA court in Jammu...," read the CBI statement.
