Guwahati: Union minister of state for external affairs and MP from inner Manipur constituency, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, has requested PM Modi to do away with a “mechanical division” in Manipur.

He said the entire state should belong to the people as a whole — without any distinction of hill inhabitants or valley people — in the pattern of Himachal Pradesh.

If required, Article 371C may be amended, he suggested, referring to the special provision covering the hill areas of Manipur.

Ten tribal MLAs belonging to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi group in Manipur have urged the Centre to give their region a “separate administration” in the wake of recent violent clashes between the Meiteis and tribals. Among the MLAs who have jointly sought the ‘Separate Administration’ includes seven BJP MLAs, two KPA MLAs, and one Independent MLA.

Internet ban in affected areas has been extended till Friday.
