Abduction of ONGC staff work of handiwork of ULFA (Independent): Assam additional DGP

Five armed people whisked away the employees in a Medical Emergency Response Vehicle stationed at the site belonging to ONGC. Later, the vehicle was found abandoned near the Nimonagarh jungles close to the Assam-Nagaland border.

Following abduction of three officials of ONGC, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) G. P. Singh said that this handiwork of outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent).

Singh told mediapersons, “Investigation is on, it appears that United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) is involved in the incident. We have identified some cadres and over ground workers of the outfit.”

A senior police official said, “Around seven people are detained and there are questioned.”


No outfit has claimed responsibility for the abduction. Three ONGC employees, two Junior Engineer Assistants (Production) & a Junior Technician (Production) were abducted by unknown armed miscreants in the early hours of 21 April 2021. The abduction took place on a rig site of ONGC in Lakwa field of Sivasagar District.

ONGC has been exploring and producing oil and gas in Upper Assam since early 1960s.
