Soon after the announcement, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav termed the move an admission of failure by the state government and the Bihar Police.
"Instead of solving the rape and murder case of the NEET student, the government has once again proved that the administrative system of Bihar is corrupt, incompetent and inefficient. This reflects more on the failure of the NDA government than on the police, whose ministers keep boasting about crime control," Yadav said in a post on X.
The 18-year-old NEET aspirant was found unconscious in her room at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna on January 6. She was initially taken to a local hospital and later shifted to a private facility as her condition deteriorated. The student slipped into a coma and died on January 11.
In the preliminary probe, Patna Police had initially termed the case a suicide, triggering widespread public protests. However, the post-mortem report later indicated possible physical and sexual assault, raising serious questions over the suicide theory.
