PM Modi also recalled Singh’s invaluable contributions during some of India’s most challenging economic moments.
“Manmohan Singh played the role of a RBI governor in troubled times," Modi said. "As PM he will always be remembered for his work towards India's growth and development...Manmohan Singh's demise a big loss to nation.” he said.

"It is not ordinary to lose so much in Partition and achieve a lot in various aspects of life. His life teaches the future generation how to rise above poverty and struggles and achieve heights. He will always be remembered as a kind person, a learned economist and political leader dedicated to reforms," the prime minister added in his tribute.
The BJP leader also paid his last respects to the Congress supremo's family.

Singh had retired from the Rajya Sabha in April. He was sworn in as Prime Minister on May 22, 2004, following the general elections, and took the oath for his second term on May 22, 2009.
