A 73-year old lady dies as lift falls from eighth floor in Noida

In a tragic incident, a 73-year-old woman lost her life in a shocking elevator mishap. The elevator at Tower 24 of Paras Tierea residential society in Sector 137 in Noida reportedly experienced a free fall on Thursday, resulting in the demise of Sushila Devi, who was reportedly alone in the lift at the time.

As per a ToI report, Sushila Devi, a resident of the eighth floor, had entered the lift around 4 pm with the intention of reaching the ground floor. Regrettably, the lift malfunctioned, leading to a catastrophic wire snap and subsequent free fall. Housekeeping staff and concerned residents quickly responded to the mishap, rescuing her and rushing her to Felix Hospital.

Unfortunately, Sushila Devi succumbed to her injuries by 5.30 pm. Dr DK Gupta, the hospital's chairman, revealed that she had sustained injuries to the back of her head and abrasions on her elbows. These injuries were consistent with a fall, and her condition upon arrival at the hospital indicated the possibility of a cardiac arrest triggered by the sudden plummet.


In contrast to the official statement, residents of the highrise insist that a child accompanied Sushila Devi in the lift. The child is reportedly unconscious after the incident. Allegations have been directed towards the Apartment Owners' Association (AOA) for their perceived negligence in addressing elevator malfunctions.

"Atulay Nehra, a resident and advocate, blamed the AOA for the mishap, stressing that despite awareness of multiple malfunctioning lifts across the society, no corrective action had been taken," reads a statement from residents. "The tragic incident involving Sushila Devi is a clear result of this negligence."
