901 police personnel awarded medals

Nine hundred and one police personnel have been awarded service medals. The tally includes 140 gallantry medals. Among the bravery awards, 80 personnel were honoured for operations in Maoist violence affected areas, while 45 personnel deployed in J&K were given gallantry medals, a home ministry statement said.

Maximum medals (48) went to the Central Reserve Police Force, followed by 31 for Maharashtra Police, 25 for the J&K Police, nine for Jharkhand Police and seven each for Delhi Police, Chhattisgarh Police and the Border Security Force. The President's Police Medal for Gallantry has not been awarded to anyone this year. The awards include 93 President's Police Medal for distinguished service and 668 Police Medal for meritorious service. PMG is awarded for gallantry in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals. PPM is awarded for distinguished record in service and PM for valuable service characterised by resource and devotion to duty.
