The first shipment of 55,000 tonne of Indian wheat has reached Egypt and cleared all quality tests that are the most stringent in the world. This comes as a big validation for quality after the rumours about Turkey rejecting Indian wheat due to quality issues.

Neal Sahni, CEO, Mera Group, which had exported this consignment said, "If you can clear the quality tests in Egypt, then you can clear it anywhere in the world."

In April, Egypt had approved India as a port of origin for import of wheat. The vessel was being loaded when India announced a ban on wheat exports from May 13.

"Although Indian wheat had never gone to Egypt, we were confident we would give best quality wheat, which has been consumed by more than one billion people of India. The GoI and government of Madhya Pradesh had helped in every stage of export," said Sahni.

"The quality checking team of the Egyptian government was present in India at time of loading of the vessel. They went to the labs, did the tests, and were satisfied with the results," said Sahni.
