A 6.4 magnitude quake had shaken the region on April 28.
A 5.2 earthquake jolted Assam on Wednesday morning. Tremors were felt in neighbouring Meghalaya and northern West Bengal as well as parts of Bangladesh.

The earthquake hit at 8.45 am, the National Center for Seismology said. The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 14 km, in Goalpara, lower Assam, it added.

There was no immediate news of injury to anyone or damage to property.


According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the seismic activity was registered 71 km north of Tura in Meghalaya.

The jolt triggered panic in Lower Assam districts and Meghalaya, with media reporting that people ran out of their homes in many places including in Guwahati.

In West Bengal, northern districts including Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri felt the impact of the jolt.

In Bangladesh, impact was felt in Dhaka, Gaibandha, Bogura and Rajshahi, as per local media reports.

The northeast is part of a high seismic zone. Earthquakes occur frequently across the whole region. April 28 saw the last major tremblor in the region, a 6.4 magnitude one.
