Guwahati: A tremor of 5.1 magnitude on the richter scale hit Assam on Monday and a women was injured while rushing out of home.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that although there is no major damage reported from anywhere in the state, an elderly woman received major injuries while rushing out of her home.

The earthquake occurred at 4.17 am on Monday and the epicenter of the earthquake was in Morigaon in central Assam."As per Field Officer under Mikirbheta Revenue Circle, Joymoti Dewri, aged -80 years, sustained a head injury during the earthquake while rushing out of her home. Her family members immediately took her to Morigaon Civil Hospital for treatment," the ASDMA authorities said.


The depth of the earthquake was recorded to be 50 kms beneath the ground.
