40 cases of Delta Plus variant detected in India, say government sources

According to the Health Ministry, INSACOG has termed the Delta Plus as a "variant of concern" and shows increased transmissibility, and binds to the receptor of our lung cells more strongly.

About 40 cases of Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus have been identified in India, says government sources. Most of the infections have been detected in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

According to the Health Ministry, INSACOG has termed the Delta Plus as a "variant of concern" and shows increased transmissibility, and binds to the receptor of our lung cells more strongly. It can also reduce monoclonal antibody response.

Based on these findings, the Health Ministry has alerted the concerned states about the coronavirus variant.
