Assam was shaken by a second earthquake in one week as 3.9-magnitude quake struck the northeastern state on Thursday evening.

Officials told PTI that the latest quake originated in Udalguri district and occurred at a depth of 10 km. It was recorded at 7.30 pm, at 26.71° north latitude and 92.30° east longitude.

Tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including Guwahati and other central and northern regions.

Authorities confirmed to the news agency that no injuries or damage to property were reported.

Earlier on Monday, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake had hit Morigaon district at a depth of 50 km, leaving three people injured and causing minor damage to houses and structures in Morigaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Nagaon districts.

However, this is not unusual as the region falls in a high seismic zone, making it prone to earthquakes.
