20-year-old Bengaluru college student murdered near railway tracks; ex-boyfriend prime suspect

A 20-year-old B Pharmacy student was brutally murdered near the railway tracks in Srirampura on Thursday afternoon, reported TOI.

The victim, Yamini Priya G, was a first-year student at a pharmacy college in Hosakerehalli, Banashankari, and a resident of Swatantrapalya in Srirampura.

According to police, Priya was attacked between 2 pm and 2.30 pm near the railway tracks. The assailant, identified as her former boyfriend Vignesh, allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds on her throat, face, and body before fleeing the spot.


According to the report, police received information about the incident around 2.50 pm.

Victim had earlier complained to police

Police investigations revealed that Priya and Vignesh had been close earlier but had drifted apart due to personal differences. Despite her repeated refusals to rekindle the relationship, Vignesh continued to pursue her, often following her near her college and home.

Priya had earlier approached the Srirampura police, asking them to warn Vignesh about his behaviour. Acting on her complaint, police had recorded his statement and issued a warning, noted the TOI report.

Investigators said Vignesh was previously arrested by the City Market police for extorting money from people by posing as a police officer and civic marshal during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A case of murder has been registered at the Srirampura Police Station, and search operations are underway to trace the absconding accused.
