2 in 3 Indians feel Covid changed way we work for better

Nearly two-thirds of Indians feel changes to work practices after the Covid-19 pandemic have improved their quality of life, with some 59% saying they have been more productive, reveals a global survey of jobseekers.

As many as 5,286 adults in 10 countries (Albania, Egypt, India, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Spain, the UK, Turkey, Germany) were covered in the survey, commissioned by technology company VOIS (Vodafone Intelligent Solutions), in April 2022.

Half the respondents from India wanted to work permanently from home, according to the study. Without a regular daily commute, 46% of men and women surveyed in India believed family relationships have improved, with 42% saying they now spend more time in nature. As much as 40% claimed that they exercise more and eat a healthier diet now.


Salary continues to be the most important factor for Indian jobseekers, but considering a new role or deciding to remain with an employer is also driven by the desire to "serve the greater good". More than a quarter (28%) of respondents agreed that this would motivate them the most in their job search, up from 22% pre-Covid.

The least popular career goals for Indian jobseekers surveyed were managing people, which appealed to only 19% of the respondents, and having an international career (18%).

The percentage of Indian jobseekers putting work-life balance among their top goals has risen from 36% to 47% since the pandemic. The desire for job security has also gone up, with 37% putting it among their top criteria, compared with 34% pre-Covid.

Nearly half (45%) of Indian jobseekers surveyed said they would feel the happiest in a role if their employer let them choose their working hours. As much as 44% said they would like free skills training to help them grow.
